Dhaka, Dec 26: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has sought assistance from the councilors of Dhaka North and South City Corporation to create an environment where voters can cast their votes freely in the upcoming National Assembly elections.

On Monday, the councilors of the two city corporations held a law and order meeting with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital to discuss bringing in voters and the upcoming elections. From 10:30 am for about two and a half hours, the meeting discussed about keeping the law and order situation normal in Dhaka, preventing various types of terrorist activities including car arson.

According to sources in the meeting, DMP considers it a challenge to bring the voters of Dhaka to the center in the 12th National Assembly elections on January 7. In this case, the councils of the two city corporations of Dhaka will work to bring the voters to the center. Policemen will ensure the security of the voters. It was also discussed in the meeting that legal action will be taken against anyone who prevents voters from voting.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said in response to a question from the journalists after the exchange meeting that voting is a democratic right, not voting is also a democratic right. But blocking the vote is not a democratic right. It is also the constitutional responsibility of every citizen, public representative and police to resist the inaction of those who come to prevent voting.

In response to the question whether he has received any information of any risk or sabotage from the councillors, the DMP Commissioner said that there is no specific risk or sabotage on the occasion of the election. Councilors said people in their areas are looking forward to voting, with everyone voting spontaneously.
