DNCC DNCC announces budget of Tk 5,269 cr
Dhaka, July 25: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced a budget of Tk 5,269 crore 45 lakh for the financial year 2023-24. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the budget of DNCC was Tk 5,485 crore, later the revised budget was Tk 2,950 crore 98 lakh.
Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam announced this budget in a press conference organized in the hall room of DNCC Nagarbhaban in Gulshan on Monday (July 24).
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced to build 'Smart Bangladesh' by realizing the dream of Digital Bangladesh. We are determined to make DNCC a smart city in the Prime Minister's dream of Smart Bangladesh. DNCC's budget for FY 2023-24 has been formulated following Prime Minister's development drive.
He said, "In the fiscal year 2022-23, the revenue of DNCC was Tk 1,062 crore 35 lakhs 62 thousand 103. This is a testament to the capability of North City Corporation. In the financial year 2023-24, the total revenue income is estimated at Tk 1830 crore 88 lakh, which is Tk 186 crore 98 lakh more than the last financial year. I expect the income to increase this year due to holding tax, market salami, trade license fee, transfer of property and road digging fee."
Stating that the collection of holding tax and trade license fee online has already increased the revenue at a significant rate, Mayor Atiq said that the range of online services is being increased to ensure transparency and accountability and public service. I have some other plans to increase the revenue. Smart parking and provision of number plates with QR codes on rickshaws will increase revenue. Apart from this, more revenue will be collected from the lease of the sacrificial animal market than in the past. Needless to say, if the holding assessment is done in the new wards, the household tax revenue will increase greatly in the future.
The mayor said that the budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 has been arranged with the aim of building an environment-friendly, aesthetic and beautiful green city. Emphasis has been placed on modernization and online services in every sector. Through the successful implementation of this budget, the economy of DNCC will be stronger and faster. Multifaceted quality services will be ensured for the city dwellers.
In response to a journalist's question, the mayor said, "We have increased the budget allocation by giving utmost importance to dengue control. There is allocation in the budget for mosquito control and purchase of modern equipment. We are taking various steps. But public awareness is very important. He also said that a task force headed by ward councilors will be formed soon to control dengue."
