Dhaka, August 16: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has announced the closure of the capital's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. They can start work only after ensuring safety.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said, "August 15 was the National Mourning Day. Meanwhile, yesterday's accident shook us. It is very sad. But it could have been easily avoided. If security was provided."

He said, "last Thursday, I called the managers of all the projects under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North in the city building. I told them that there should be no public suffering in the development work. The project managers then assured. I found that there was no security system in this project work."

He said, "The first condition of any work is to ensure safety first. There was no work safety here. There is no signboard about this project anywhere. Not to mention security. There was no fencing on the road during the work yesterday. The police were not asked for the security of this work."
