Do police have right to self-defence or not if they are attacked, asks PM

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 2: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP is creating a 'situation' in the movement to get media coverage.

She said, "This is true that I have told the police not to say anything. But the police did not do anything. A policeman has the right to defend himself if he is attacked."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these in the concluding speech of the 19th session of the National Parliament on Thursday (September 1). Earlier, Member of Parliament Rumin Farhana criticized the government by highlighting the information about the police action on BNP.

In response to this, the Prime Minister said, "I have spoken about the movement. No one will say anything if they march peacefully. Where it is happening peacefully, no one is saying anything."

PM said, "Rumin Farhana said the situation is very bad and shouted about the Bhola incident. The opposition will protest, I told the police, that it is right not to say anything. But the police didn't do anything first. Any person who is attacked has the right to defend himself."

Addressing the BNP leaders, the Prime Minister said, "It seems that they will throw bombs, hit sticks, throw stones, shoot everything, but nothing can be said to them. I have talked about protesting, marching, and staging movement. If you do it peacefully, no one will say anything. Where it is happening peacefully, no one is saying anything. But they will come down to the field, where they will attack first, and create a 'situation'. They will do such things to get media coverage."
