BARI Director General Dr. Debashish Sarkar appointed new Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute
Dhaka, October 23: Agricultural scientist and entomologist Dr. Debashish Sarkar has been appointed as the new Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI). He has been appointed as the Director General (current duties) of BARI following an order from the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday. Earlier, Dr. Md. Nazirul Islam held the post.
On Friday, Dr. Debashish Sarkar said that he had earlier served as the Director of Pulses Research Centre & Regional Agricultural Research Station in Ishwardi, Pabna. Prior to that, he was the Chief Scientific Officer of BARI's Department of Entomology.
Dr. Debashish Sarkar, who studied Entomology from Mymensingh Agricultural University, was the Chief Scientific Officer and also the Director of Project for Innovation and Extension of Organic Pesticide Based Technology in Insect and Disease Management of Bangladesh Vegetable, Fruit and Beet Crops.
Dr. Debashish Sarkar was born on 31 December 1963 in Joypurhat district. In 1990, he started his career as a Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute's Chapainawabganj Research Center.
