Dhaka, March 29: Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud raised the question of whether taking the award of Dr. Muhammad Yunus from an Israeli sculptor indiscriminately supported the indiscriminate killing of women and children in Gaza and the organization of crimes against humanity there.

He said this while briefing journalists on contemporary affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus is claimed to have been given an award by UNESCO. But the education minister said that no such award was given by UNESCO.

When asked about this, he said, "I am very surprised, shocked, with respect to Dr. Yunus, I want to say the way Yunus Center lied. Actually it is not a UNESCO award. It was given an award by an Israeli sculptor named Miz Hedvars at a UNESCO conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. How many events are held at the conference? How many conferences do you go to that are somehow related to UNESCO? But by no means was it given by UNESCO, not by an individual. It is advertised as having been awarded by UNESCO. It is false and misrepresented. Such false propaganda has been done by Yunus Center many times before. This is not the first time."

The Minister added, "I want to say with respect and honor to Dr. Yunus, he won the Nobel Peace Prize but today in Gaza people are being killed indiscriminately, women and children are being killed. He didn't utter a word about it, he didn't make a protest. Instead, the Israeli took the award from a sculptor. What is it, what does it mean. It is very sad to receive an award from an Israeli sculptor."
