Dhaka, October 29: The Appellate Division has rejected the leave to appeal against the High Court's order to leave the residence of Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, a controversial teacher of Dhaka University who was dismissed for insulting Bangabandhu and distorting the history of the Liberation War. As a result, he will have to leave his residence in the university's residential area, said Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morsed.

The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui passed the order on Thursday (October 27). Senior lawyer Salahuddin Dolan appeared for Morshed Hasan in the court. Additional Attorney General Sheikh Mohammad Morsed and Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukdar were for the state.

On July 5, the High Court rejected the application of the university authorities to suspend the notice given to Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, who was dismissed for insulting Bangabandhu and distorting the history of the Liberation War. The High Court bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice SM Moniruzzaman gave the order.

Later Professor Morshed Hasan Khan left to appeal against the order of the High Court. On June 29, the university authorities gave a notice to Morshed Hasan Khan to leave the house. Professor Morshed applied to the High Court seeking suspension of the proceedings of the notice.

According to university sources, Morshed Hasan Khan lives in a 2800 square feet house on the second floor of residential building number 37, North Fuller Road, DU. He was supposed to vacate the house as per rules after being discharged from service in September 2020. But he still did not leave that house.

In the Independence Day issue of a national daily on March 26, 2018, Professor Morshed Hasan wrote an article titled 'Jyotirmoy Zia'. The Chhatra League alleged that the article insulted Bangabandhu, distorted the history of the liberation war and made arrogant statements about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In addition to the movement, the leaders and activists of the BCL gave a memorandum to the vice-chancellor demanding his dismissal in this incident.

Dhaka University Teachers' Association also condemned and protested the writing. In this incident, on 9 September 2020, Professor Morshed was dismissed from the university by a decision of the Syndicate.
