Earthquake hits Coumilla, 80 injured

Dhaka, 3 December 2023 : In Comilla, 80 workers were injured as they rushed out of a garment factory after being frightened by the earthquake that lasted for a few seconds.

They were rescued and treated at Upazila Health Complex and Comilla Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place at Amir Shirts Garments in Chauddagram of the district around 9:35 am on Saturday.

It is known that the workers of Amir Shirts Garments panicked and tried to get down in a hurry when the building shook due to the sudden earthquake.

As the main gate of the factory was closed at that time, rumors spread that the building had collapsed.

The other workers panicked and tried to break the lock of the main gate. At that time, more than half a hundred workers were injured in the stampede. On receiving the information, fire service and police station went and rescued the injured and took them to Comilla Medical College Hospital and Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex.

Anwar Hossain, HR officer of Amir Shirts Garments said, "I was miking myself during the earthquake so that no one panics." At this time, someone said that there was a crack in the building. At that time, the workers panicked and got trampled and 20-25 people were injured. We rescued them and sent them to the hospital for treatment.

Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex Officer Dr. Golam Kibria Tipu told Jago News that a total of 80 workers were brought to the hospital with injuries in the Amir Shirts Garments incident. Three of them have been sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital. The remaining 77 people went home with treatment.
