Dhaka, September 25: Educational institutions will be closed again if coronavirus infection increases in the country, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni told reporters after the inauguration of the Bangabandhu Bapu Digital Exhibition at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Saturday (September 25).

"We are monitoring the situation," she said. "The pandemic is not over yet. Anyone can be infected at any time. If the pandemic gets bigger, the educational institutions will be closed."

She further said, “So far no situation has been created where educational institutions have been closed down. If so, we will take action. So far, most of the reported cases from schools have said primary school students to be infected with the coronavirus. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is monitoring the matter and they are taking necessary steps in this regard."

Regarding the coronavirus infections, Dipu Moni said, "There has been a problem in our secondary level educational institutions, especially the eighth grade student of a school in Manikganj has died. We talked to the civil surgeon there about that case. That student came to class only once after the school opened. News of her infection was received 6-7 days later."

The Education Minister expressed her deepest condolences on the death of the student.

"I pray for the forgiveness of her soul," she said.

Regarding the Covid-19 infection of a class 10 student in Keraniganj, the minister said, "After receiving the news, we tested all the students of that class. No one else was found infected."

Dipu Moni said, "Many students are informing me through social media that so many people are affected in this school, so many people are sick in that school. I searched, but did not find any truth. But we are keeping a watchful eye. As soon as any complaint is received, I am immediately monitoring and taking action."

Responding to a question from reporters, the minister said that now pre-primary classes are being considered. For now, they will take TV and online classes from home. The next decision will be taken after monitoring the situation in the next three weeks.
