Dhaka, August 22: The government is implementing the decision to make the weekly holiday two days in the educational institutions of the country. Educational institutions will be closed on Friday and Saturday every week. This decision will be effective from next week.

An order in this regard was issued on Monday (August 22) signed by Saifur Rahman Khan, Deputy Secretary of the Administration and Establishment Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education.

According to the order, educational institutions under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education will be closed for two days a week on Friday and Saturday to save electricity and energy in view of the ongoing situation. The university has been requested to take necessary measures in this regard by the decision of the respective authorities. The order issued with the approval of the appropriate authorities has also been asked to be implemented immediately.

Saifur Rahman Khan said, according to the decision of the government, the holiday of educational institutions has been implemented for two days. It will be implemented from next week. Separate instructions will be issued from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to guide the schools and colleges. And the Ministry of Education has asked the University Grants Commission to inform the university authorities about this matter.

The proposal of Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni was approved from a meeting of the cabinet under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the meeting, the head of government directed to close educational institutions for two days a week.

Last February, the education minister said that from 2023, a two-day weekly holiday will be announced in all levels of educational institutions, starting from primary. However, due to the ongoing power crisis, apart from making changes in the agenda of other government and autonomous offices, two days of weekend was announced earlier in educational institutions.
