Dhaka, October 1: Fugitive convicts who have been sentenced to death in war crimes and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman murder cases, who are currently staying in the United States, will be brought back to the country and given appropriate punishment. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this in an exchange meeting with Awami League's US branch, associate organization leaders and expatriate Bangladeshis at a hotel in Washington DC on Friday.

She also said that we are repeatedly discussing with the United States about the return of war criminals and murderers of Bangabandhu to Bangladesh. After the meeting, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon briefed the journalists.

The Prime Minister said that the United States is talking about human rights even after giving shelter to the killers of the then President and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975, including most of his family members.

She further said that the killers did not spare even four-year-old children and women. She said that military dictator and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman started the politics of killing, disappearance, corruption, nepotism and culture of impunity in the country.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina reiterated the call to speak out against people involved in anti-state propaganda and misdeeds, besides working to brighten the country's image abroad.

The Prime Minister said that the construction of Padma Bridge was a big challenge for Bangladesh. Because there is a deep conspiracy and propaganda against it.

She said, "Unfortunately many prominent people of Bangladesh were behind this conspiracy. But, we faced all the challenges and finally built the Padma Bridge with our own funding." She said that regional and local connectivity will increase as the construction of Padma Bridge is completed.

The Prime Minister said that her government is working tirelessly for the progress and prosperity of the country and Bangladesh has already achieved the status of middle income country. She once again promised to build a Sonar Bangla free from hunger, poverty and all forms of exploitation as dreamed by the father of the nation.
