Eight people including Jamaat leader Salim remanded

Dhaka, April 8: The court granted a five-day remand to Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka Metropolitan North Amir Muhammad Salim Uddin, who was arrested from a secret meeting.

At the same time, the remand of seven others has been granted for two days. The other accused who were remanded are Abul Bashar, member of Jamaat Mahanagar Majlis, former General Secretary of Comilla District Student Camp Mohammad Yusuf, supporters Anwarul Haque, Shibbir Ahmed, engineer Md Sirajul Islam and Abdul Hakim Sarkar.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi granted remand on Saturday. On this day, eight accused including Salim were produced in the court. At this time, the investigating officer of the case DB Police Inspector Sameer Chandra Sutradhar applied for the remand of Selim for 10 days and the other seven accused for different periods. However, the accused applied for cancellation of remand and bail. After hearing both sides, the court denied bail and remanded Selim for five days and the other seven for two days.

Earlier on Friday, it was alleged that the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami met in a secret meeting with the aim of spreading fear among the public, overthrowing the government, sabotaging government buildings and vehicles and creating terror. The detective police arrested them during the operation. In this incident, a case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Bhatara police station in the capital.
