Ekushey medalist painter Samarjit Roy Chowdhury is no more

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 10: Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, the famous Ekushey Padak award-winning painter, passed away. He breathed his last in a Dhaka hospital on Sunday afternoon. He was 85.

Samarjit Roy Chowdhury's family sources said that he was in the hospital since September 5. After getting treatment for a week, he was taken home. On September 15, when his physical condition worsened, he was again admitted to the hospital. He breathed his last on Sunday. He is survived by family, relatives, and numerous well-wishers.

Samarjit Roy Chowdhury was born in 1937. In 2014, he received the Ekushey Padak for his contribution to painting.

President Md. Abdul Hamid has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of the Ekushey Medal award-winning painter and Dhaka University Fine Arts Faculty Professor Samarjit Roy Chowdhury. In a condolence message, he wished peace to the departed soul of the late Prof. Samarjit Roy Chowdhury and expressed deep condolences to his bereaved family.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Ekushey medalist and professor of the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University Samarjit Roy Chowdhury. In a condolence message, she wished the departed soul of Samarjit Roy Chowdhury to rest in peace and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in a condolence statement today expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of renowned painter Samarjit Roy Chowdhury.

In the statement, he wished for the peace of the holy soul of the divine Samarjit Roy Chowdhury and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family, relatives, and well-wishers.
