Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 15: On Wednesday (October 12) in the afternoon, India's BSF personnel beat up an elderly farmer named Eslam Ali (65) after entering Dasbighi area of Masudpur border of Shibganj Upazila of Chapainawabganj. Eslam Ali came home after receiving treatment from the hospital on Friday (October 14).

Farmer Eslam Ali said, "My son Abdur Rahim and I were cutting jute in Dasbighi area of Bangladesh territory. At that time, BSF members from India's Daulatpur camp on the other side of the border intruded into the Bangladesh border and started torturing me and my son terribly with rifle butts. Scared of this, my son Rahim ran away leaving me. A BSF man even ran a long distance to catch Rahim. Unable to catch him, they all started beating me. I fell to the ground and started crying. But still, they did not stop the torture."

He said, "At this time, I got my left arm fractured after being hit by them with their rifle. Another of them hit me with a stick and cracked my head. They also kicked me. Later they left. I was lying on the ground. Later my son rescued me and took me to the hospital."

"I have been subjected to torture without committing any crime. I want justice for this," the victim added.

Local UP member Sirajul Islam said that the injured Eslam Ali was brought home after treatment. I am in regular contact with BGB to know why such an incident happened.

He also said that Eslam Ali is a very good person. It's sad with him.

In this regard, 53 BGB battalion commander Lt. Col. Md. Nahid Hossain said, BSF was called for a flag meeting after the incident. The flag meeting was held on Thursday. They said, such an incident is actually very undesirable. Now BSF has many types of people irrespective of caste and religion. Someone may do such a thing of their own free will. So they said that the matter will be investigated and action will be taken against the culprits.

The tortured farmer Eslam Ali is a resident of Munnapara village of the upazila.
