Dhaka, July 31: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said that the national elections will be held on time and the schedule will not be published before October.

He said that the schedule has nothing to do with the vote. I can give the schedule three months in advance, I can give it four months in advance. There are laws regarding when elections should be held. But the law does not say when the schedule should be given.

He said this at the election building at Agargaon in the capital on Sunday. Regarding the schedule of the next 12th National Assembly elections, the CEC said, "We have not discussed the schedule, and no decision has been taken." I talked about the schedule in September along with 90 days. After calculating, I saw that it was not before October."

So the vote is in December? In response to questions from journalists, CEC said, "Certainly not before the last week of December. It is said in our roadmap that the election will be held in the last week of December or the first week of January. The schedule is not important if I did it today or tomorrow. When is the important election?"

So early voting is not happening? Election at the right time? In response to questions from journalists, he said, how will early voting be? If the schedule is given today, will there be an early vote?

He said, "In my estimation, I have said that the schedule likely to be published by the end of October. May be late October, may be early November. It's nothing important. Regarding the schedule but there is no law how long before the schedule should be given. Normally 50 days, 60 days in advance schedule is given."

Meanwhile, Tenet Finance International Group representative and election observer Terry L. Isley said the demand for an independent caretaker government under the current circumstances is unconstitutional and illegal. Your constitution does not authorize a caretaker government.

On the invitation of the Election Monitoring Forum, the international monitoring team held a meeting with the Election Commission, the Home Minister and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
