Dhaka, December 6: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that there is going to be a big change in the power sector in the northern region. "We are getting electricity from Bheramara, we will get electricity from Rooppur nuclear power plant, electricity will also come from India's Adani. As a result, power shortage will be reduced from next year."

He said, if the amount of electricity increases, its consumption will also increase. As a result, investment in distribution lines should be increased. At the same time, there is a lot of vacant land in the northern region. Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO) can make proper use of it by installing solar panels.

The state minister said this at a seminar titled 'NESCO Towards 2041, Challenge and Way Forward' organized by Nesco at an elite hotel in the capital on Sunday (December 4). The state minister said that the land ministry is digitizing its management. A master plan is being prepared for how the land will be used. Nesco can discuss with the Ministry of Lands how it can distribute electricity in its area. There are two economic zones and one basic area. As a result electricity should be distributed according to proper plan.

He said, there are 27,000 irrigation pumps in the northern region. Plan to bring them under solar power. By 2041, Bangladesh's goal is to implement 40 percent clean energy in the energy sector. Nesco should take care of this. Areas covered by Nesco should take up the project of installing solar panels on school roofs.

Regarding the payment system, the state minister said that within the next three years, all bill systems in Nesco area will come under smart prepaid meters. As this will reduce suffering, proper utilization of the money raised will also be ensured.

Nasrul Hamid said that technology is the way forward in the power sector. There is no alternative. The more late he goes, the more backward he will be. PGCB, BPDB could not penetrate the technology. Nesco has moved forward in this regard. As a result, the company born in 2016 has become a profitable company in a very short time.
