Elevated road construction project in Kishoreganj approved

Dhaka, January 18: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved a project of Tk 5,651 crore 13 lakh for the construction of an elevated road for road connectivity from Mithamin Upazila Sadar to Karimganj Upazila of Kishoreganj district.

This approval was given at the ECNEC meeting held on Tuesday at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sherebangla Nagar chaired by ECNEC chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Briefing the journalists after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that a total of 11 projects have been approved in the meeting, the total estimated cost of which is Tk 10,640.58 crore. Out of the total expenditure, Tk 7,827 crore 50 lakh will be available from the Government of Bangladesh and Tk 2,880 crore 18 lakh as project assistance. Among the 11 approved projects, six are new and five are revised projects.

The Planning Minister said that the main objective of the elevated road construction project is to improve road connectivity from Mithamin Sadar to Karimganj Upazila in Haor region with Mithamin cantonment. Besides, the existing road of about 13.40 km from Nakabhanga Circle to Morichkhali Bazar will be widened to keep uninterrupted road communication between Kishoreganj Sadar, Dhaka, Sylhet and other districts of Itna, Mithamin and Ashtagram Upazila smooth and operational.

Major project activities include- construction of 15.13 km elevated road, widening of 13.40 km existing road, construction of four bridges, construction of 13 toll plazas, construction of toll monitoring building and check post, construction of 13 km temporary submersible road, installation of four deep tube wells, Construction of four feet over bridges, 40,468 square meter construction yard, 8,224 square meter bus stops and acquisition of 151.09 acres of land.

Highlighting some of the instructions of the Prime Minister in the meeting, the Planning Minister said that the Prime Minister has once again instructed the concerned authorities and executive agencies to complete the development work within the stipulated time while maintaining the quality of the work.

State Minister for Planning Dr. Shamsul Alam said that the Prime Minister has ordered everyone to be careful in spending as well as maintain frugality in spending money.

He said, the head of the government has called on everyone to increase productivity to ensure the growth of the country's production and also encourage others to increase their production.
