Embezzlement of assets worth Tk 20 crore; Case against 43 people including Hefazat leader Mamunul

Dhaka, June 16: A case has been filed against 43 people, including former joint secretary general of Hefazat-e-Islam Mamunul Haque, for embezzling assets worth Tk 20 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan has directed the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) to investigate the matter and submit a report. This was revealed by the court sources on Wednesday (June 16).

According to sources, Muhaddis Maulana Abdur Razzak Qasemi filed the case on behalf of Al Madrasatu Mueenul Islam on Tuesday (June 15) for embezzling assets worth Tk 20 crore. The court accepted the plaintiff's statement and directed the PBI to investigate and submit a report.

According to the complaint in the case, before the death of the late Muhtamim Mufti Ataur Rahman, the founder of Al Madrasatu Mueenul Islam, the accused embezzled Tk 20 crore by colluding with each other by showing the purchase of rice, pulses for teachers' consumption and steel rod, cement for the construction of buildings.

According to the complaint, on October 9, 2020, the main road near Pragati Sarani adjacent to Narda Baridhara was blocked by illegal mobs against the interests and ideals of Al Madrasatu Mueenul Islam. Explaining - 'The goods of Saad Sahib and his followers are the goods of booty' - in this regard, by disobeying the clear prohibition of the court regarding the operation of the madrasa, the cash, cash books, expense vouchers, cash books, ledger books and stock books kept in the cupboards inside the tinshed office of Al Madrasatu Muinul Islam were confiscated.

Later, on October 13, 2020, when the parents called a meeting to exchange views with the teachers, the accused surrounded them with hundreds of unruly students and terrorists and snatched mobile phones, money from the visitors and hit them with iron rods, sticks, bamboo, etc., causing severe injuries.
