Dhaka, July 29: The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR will receive a €3.35 million grant from the European Union's (EU) Humanitarian Aid Department for UNHCR to continue providing protection services and assistance to Rohingya refugees and the local population hosting them in Bangladesh.

It was welcomed by UNHCR. The funds will also be used to rehabilitate the damage caused by the recent Cyclone Mocha that hit Cox's Bazar district including the Rohingya camps.

This was informed in a press release of UNHCR.

UNHCR's representative in Bangladesh, Johannes von der Klaau, said on Friday that the European Union's donation helps us to continue providing vital protection and life-saving humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. This new fund will help the refugees to lead a dignified life, while also helping us to rebuild the houses and various facilities of the refugees affected by Cyclone Mocha.

It is almost six years of humanitarian operations for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. This financial support from the European Union will help the refugees in the Cox's Bazar camp to receive legal assistance, registration, prevention and combating of gender-based violence and protection of children. And Bhasanchar will continue all existing protection services for refugees.
