Dhaka, May 14: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her firm conviction to bring all the citizens of the country under vaccination. This was stated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her address to the nation on Thursday (May 13) evening.

"We have started mass immunization with the most effective and tested Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. As you know, the Indian authorities have imposed a temporary ban on the export of vaccines. This has created some problems in the supply chain," she said.

"We have taken the initiative to procure vaccines from alternative sources. We are already in talks with Russian and Chinese vaccine manufacturers. We have already received vaccines from China as a gift. We have also requested the United States to get the vaccines," she said.

"We will also receive a significant amount of vaccines from the World Immunization Agency (WAVA). We have procured one crore vaccines from various sources. Vaccines will start coming to the country very soon. It will take a few months. We will bring all the citizens of the country under vaccination, InshaAllah," PM Hasina said.

The Prime Minister said the lockdown had hurt the livelihood of many, but there was no alternative but to take such drastic measures.

"The deadly coronavirus is not just taking people's lives, it's wreaking havoc on the world economy. Lockdown or public holidays have to be enforced to prevent infection," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Last year, we enforced more than two consecutive months of general holiday. After the second wave hit, the lockdown has been implemented in phases from the 5th of last month. It has affected the livelihood of countless people. There was no alternative. "
