Dhaka, February 7: Vaccination with booster doses will be over by the end of this year. Health Minister Zahid Maleque told reporters after a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday (February 7th).

He also said that more than Tk 20,000 crore has been spent for vaccination so far. He said a target has been set to vaccinate 140 million people in the country, adding that 70 percent of the country's people have been vaccinated, while 82 percent of the targeted people have been vaccinated.

The Minister said that vaccination activities are going on successfully. One hundred million of the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, about 70 million second dose and about 15 million students have been vaccinated.

The health minister said that 27 crore vaccines have been received so far. "If we can't vaccinate 100 percent, some vaccines will remain. What they will do will be decided later. All vaccines are effective. The vaccine that can be found should be taken."

"The number of patients in the hospital is now about 2,500. About 1,500 in Dhaka division. The death toll from vaccinations has not risen as high as in other countries."

Thanking the people for taking the vaccine spontaneously, the health minister said people did not take to the streets to demand non-vaccination like in Europe or many other countries. However, he said, "The vaccine reduces the risk of death, not infection. So wear a mask and follow hygiene rules."

The health minister further said that 15 million to 17.5 million people in the country have not been vaccinated yet. He urged everyone to get vaccinated.
