Ex Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain accompanies PM Hasina during Padma Bridge inauguration

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 25: Former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain has returned proudly through attending the inauguration ceremony of the Padma Bridge. He was with the Prime Minister at the inauguration of the Padma Bridge, a symbol of dream, courage and capability, on Saturday (June 25). At this time he was seen smiling.

Besides Abul Hossain, former Bridges Division secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was also present at the event.

Earlier, addressing a gathering before inaugurating the Padma Bridge, the Prime Minister said that false accusations had been leveled at the planning stage of the construction of the bridge.

"My family members, including my younger sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Redwan Mujib Siddique, my two children Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul, my economic advisor Dr. Moshiur Rahman, former Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, former Communications and Bridges Division secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and some colleagues, had to face the slander. They suffered extreme mental anguish. I sympathize with them," she said.

After addressing the programme, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina entered the Padma Bridge after paying toll. She paid the toll on Saturday (June 25) at 11:48 am. Later, she inaugurated the road of Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project with the guests. After the munajat, she unveiled the inaugural plaque and mural-1.

Earlier, the Prime Minister left the old airport at Tejgaon at 9.30 am for Mawa in Munshiganj. She was accompanied by senior officials from the Prime Minister's Office. The Prime Minister reached the meeting stage at 10 am.

According to the schedule, she spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the Padma Bridge at the end of Mawa. Cabinet Secretary Anwarul Islam delivered the welcome address under the chairmanship of Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. Speaker of the National Assembly, members of the cabinet, political leaders of the country, ambassadors of different countries and representatives of development partners, journalists, teachers and representatives of various sections and professions took part.

She also issued commemorative stamps, souvenir sheets, inauguration envelopes and seals on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge.

The World Bank withdrew funding from the project, alleging corruption at the planning stage of the Padma Bridge. The then Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain and Bridges Division secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan were removed from their posts.
