External interference in internal issues of Bangladesh is not acceptable: Russian Foreign Minister

Dhaka, Sept 8: Bangladesh has maintained an independent foreign policy despite pressure from the United States and its allies. It is not right that the US and their friends are trying to use force on Bangladesh. Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov commented that the attempt of foreign powers to interfere in the internal issues of Bangladesh is not acceptable.

Russian Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen at a hotel in the capital on Thursday, September 7. Lavrov made this comment at the joint briefing after the meeting. The Russian Foreign Minister praised Bangladesh for sticking to its foreign policy on the Russia issue despite the pressure from the United States and its allies and said that Bangladesh and Russia will work together in the international arena and cooperate with each other. He expressed hope that Dhaka-Moscow relations will be stronger in the coming days.

Lavrov said, this is my first visit to Bangladesh. Bangladesh is our old friend. Our trade advantage has increased. Bangladesh is our second trading partner in South Asia after India. Our bilateral trade has exceeded two billion US dollars. Which will increase to three billion dollars in the future.

In response to a question on the issue of the United States, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the United States and its friends are conducting many activities in the region through the formation of "Aka" and "Quad". Russia has observed the matter. If we consider the situation, we see that their (US) aim is to deter China and isolate Russia. Which is actually part of the expansion of NATO.

The Russian Foreign Minister said that the work of Rooppur power plant will be completed on time. He said that the work of Rooppur power plant will be completed on time. The fuel of this project will arrive in Bangladesh next month. We are working on the implementation of the bilateral gas field project, we are also trying to figure out how to implement the LNG supply.

Lavrov said that the matter was included in our discussion regarding not allowing Rooppur's goods to enter Bangladesh. Rooppur power plant project development has suffered a lot due to turning back the ship. We are trying to find a simple solution to this issue. Lavrov also said that both sides are working on facilitating the import of wheat and fertilizers from Russia to Bangladesh.

Russian Foreign Minister arrived in Dhaka on Thursday evening on a 24-hour visit. This is the first visit of a Russian foreign minister to Dhaka.
