Dhaka, January 6: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and member of the party's Standing Committee Mirza Abbas will remain in jail till next Sunday (January 8) in a case lodged at Paltan police station on charges of planning and inciting attacks on the police. On that day, the full bench of the Appellate Division has fixed the date of bail hearing. Appellate Division Chamber Justice Jahangir Hossain Salim gave the order on Wednesday (January 4).

The court also ordered that the bail of Fakhrul and Abbas cannot be filed until the full bench of the Appellate Division hears it.

On Tuesday, a bench consisting of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted interim bail to Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas for six months. At the same time, the court issued a four-week rule seeking to know why they will not be granted permanent bail. Then the state filed an appeal on Wednesday morning seeking suspension of their bail. The chamber court gave this order after hearing that application.

Prior to this, Fakhrul-Abbas's bail was denied four times in the judicial court. DB Police arrested Fakhrul and Abbas from their homes on the night of December 8. The next day on December 9, the police produced them in court. Meanwhile, investigating officer Police Inspector Tariqul Islam requested to keep the arrested BNP leaders in jail until the investigation of the case is over. On the other hand, the defense lawyers applied for bail. After the hearing of both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim rejected the bail application and ordered to send them to jail. After that, the judicial court rejected their bail application in two rounds on December 12 and 15.
