Dhaka, March 30: The court has ordered Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman to be sent to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act at Ramna Model Police Station in the capital.

Police produced him in court on Thursday. After that, investigating officer of Ramna Model Police Station, Inspector Abu Ansar, requested to keep him in jail for the sake of proper investigation of the case.

Shamsuzzaman's lawyer Prashanta Kumar Karmakar applied for his bail. After the hearing of both parties, the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Tofazzal Hossain ordered to send him to jail. Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin Faki, General Registration Officer of Ramna Police Station, informed the matter.

Earlier on Wednesday night, a lawyer named Abdul Malek filed a case under the Digital Security Act at the capital's Ramna police station in the name of Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman, their Savar reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, associate cameraman and unidentified persons. Ramna Model Police Station claims that Shamsuzzaman has been arrested in that case.

However, Shamsuzzaman was picked up from his Savar house the night before by CID police. It was then said that a case has been filed against Shamsuzzaman in Tejgaon police station. A Jubo League leader named Golam Kibria filed the case, the statement of which was published in the media.

Lawyer Abdul Maleque filed the case under the Digital Security Act against Prothom Alo editor Matiur Rahman on Wednesday night.

At the same time the outlet shared the news on their Facebook page. The news shows a child standing at the gate of the National Memorial with a flower in his hand. The reporter claimed that the child's name is Zakir Hossain. According to the report of the newspaper, the child Zakir Hossain said - "If you don't have food in your stomach, what will you do with freedom? When you go to the market, you will sweat. We want freedom of fish, meat and rice."

The statement also said that the news went viral on social media. The news was shared by thousands of people in the country and abroad along with screenshots on their social media.
