Dhaka, July 5: Hundreds of people have been arrested and fined under various traffic lawsuits and fines for unlicensed vehicles. As a result, on the fourth day of the lockdown, the city dwellers are staying in their respective homes following the government instructions. Therefore, the number of people who went out unnecessarily on Sunday is relatively less than the last three days.

On the fourth day of the lockdown, various areas of the capital were visited from Sunday morning to afternoon, the presence of vehicles and people on the roads is much less than in the last three days. Heavy rains since morning have caused waterlogging on various roads and highways in the city. As a result, many people did not go out with vehicles to avoid suffering. Most of those who have gone out have gone out for emergency work. In the meanwhile, some of them got empty roads and left without any need.

In the afternoon, a young man was driving a private car at the corner of Science Laboratory. When he was questioned at the check post, he identified as a resident of 4, Dhanmondi and said his mother was admitted at Square Hospital. But at one point during the interrogation, the man admitted that he went for a drive after finding the roads empty and forgot his driving license at home. A case was filed against him under the Traffic Act.

There have also been allegations of harassment even if necessary. A sales representative of a pharmaceutical company said, "I get paid Tk 500 for working all day. After delivering the surgical supplies from the BMA building to a doctor at the DMCH, the traffic police stopped the motorcycle in Palashi on the way back and interrogated me. Although I showed my identity card, a case of Tk 2,000 was filed."

An army officer on duty in front of Dhaka City College said, "I can say from the work experience of the last four days that the law-enforcement forces are active in implementing the lockdown. Awareness of city dwellers has also increased. So the number of people going out of the house without the need is very low. He is hopeful that the joint efforts of all will reduce the number of infections and deaths."
