First shipment of Uranium reached Rooppur
Own correspondent, Dhaka, 30 September 2023: The first consignment of fresh nuclear fuel or Uranium for the first unit of nuclear power plant has reached Rooppur. On Friday September 29 at 1:16 pm, the Uranium convoy entered the Rooppur Nuclear Plant.
Belal Hossain, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pakshir Highway Police Station in Ishwardi confirmed the matter. Bangladeshi and Russian officials and workers welcomed the Rooppur project by waving national flags and balloons when the uranium vehicle entered the project area.
It is known that this consignment of uranium arrived at Dhaka's Shahjalal Airport from Russia on Thursday afternoon. This uranium consignment left for Rooppur on Friday morning by road from Dhaka under special security.
Pabna Superintendent of Police Akbar Ali Munshi said that the Pabna-Dhaka route often creates traffic jams. For this reason, it is asked to stop the bus movement from 7 am on Friday morning for the sake of traffic control and safety.
On October 5, the fuel will be formally handed over to the authorities in Rooppur project. Decoration activities are going on in the project area around the energy transfer ceremony. Meanwhile, high-level representatives from Russia are staying at Rooppur in Ishwardi to make the event a success.
