Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 11: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam said that fish farming will be done in Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara lakes of the capital.

Mayor said, we are regularly cleaning the lake, canal and drain. But the sewage lines from houses go into canals and pollute the water. Due to pollution, I cannot cultivate fish in the canal, mosquitoes are being cultivated there. This cannot be allowed to happen any longer. Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara lakes will be prevented from pollution and fish farming will be done.

DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said, not only in Kuril Lake. All the lakes will be fished in stages. Talked to Fisheries Department about fish farming in lakes of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan area. The department told me that the water of these lakes is polluted. Fish will die here. So the lake water should be protected from pollution. Sewage lines cannot be discharged into lakes. Sewage should be managed at source at home. Our City Corporation team is doing house to house inspection of sewerage lines.

DNCC Mayor said that strict action will be taken if the sewage line is found in the canal. Mentioning that construction of buildings will not be allowed by filling the city's reservoir, the mayor said, "If the construction of a five-star hotel starts by filling the reservoir adjacent to the Kuril flyover, I will stop it with the people." We took the people with us and rescued the Lautla canal and ensured the flow of water. Buildings will not be allowed to be constructed by filling reservoirs, lakes in the city.
