Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized on sharing experience and cooperation with the Maldives in deep sea fishing.

Newly appointed Maldivian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiruzimath Samir expressed interest in signing a memorandum of understanding in this regard.

The Maldivian High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on Ganobhaban on Wednesday (February 18). Then the Prime Minister talked to him about this. The meeting also discussed issues including launch of C-Cruise, Rohingya issue, bilateral trade, education, Corona crisis.

After the meeting, Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Hasan Zahid Tushar briefed reporters on the issue. Responding to the exchange of experience and cooperation with Maldives in deep sea fishing, the High Commissioner said a memorandum of understanding could be signed during the President's visit to Bangladesh on the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.

Talking about the possibility of launching sea-cruise in Maldives at that time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the sea is calm in winter. In the winter season we can launch sea-cruises.

Expressing interest in increasing trade with Bangladesh, the Maldivian High Commissioner said, "We want to increase our trade with Bangladesh." Highlighting the investment potential in Bangladesh at the time, the Prime Minister said, "Apart from fisheries, we also have agriculture and agricultural products, leather and leather products." Entrepreneurs in the Maldives may also consider these. The Maldives can also invest in ceramics, pharmaceuticals and information technology sectors.
High Commissioner Shiruzimath Samir called on Bangladesh to invest in a new city being built near Male Island, the capital of the Maldives.

Calling on more Maldivian students to come to Bangladesh to study, the Prime Minister said, "We have established many technology universities and colleges, medical colleges, aviation universities and maritime universities in Bangladesh." Maldivian students can study there.

At that time, the High Commissioner urged the students of Bangladesh to go for their tourism education and said that Maldives is good for tourism. Students from Bangladesh can go there to study tourism.

Maldivian students are studying medicine in different parts of Bangladesh including Dhaka-Chittagong. Shirujimath Samir drew the attention of the Prime Minister to vaccinate them. At that time, the Prime Minister said, we are vaccinating the teachers first. They will also be vaccinated in phases. Besides, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested to vaccinate Bangladeshi workers living in Maldives.

Noting that workers are making a significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the Maldives, the country's High Commissioner to Bangladesh said his government was going to start vaccinating workers working there.
