Own representative, Dhaka, December 8: Burn units will be set up in five medical colleges of the country and ancillary facilities and infrastructure will be constructed. Tk 456 crore has been sanctioned for this. Besides this, 10 important projects have been approved. The total cost of the project is 7 thousand 447 crore 7 lakh taka. Of this, government funding is Tk 3,682 crore.

These projects were approved at the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Tuesday (December 7). The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. At the end of the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan gave details of the project.

He said the project titled 'Establishment of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at Five Medical College Hospitals (Sylhet, Barisal, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Faridpur)' was approved at the ECNEC meeting. Under the project, ‘Burn and Plastic Surgery Units’ will be set up in these hospitals and quality treatment for burn and paralysis patients will be provided at affordable cost. The Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Khulna and Mymensingh Medical College will be provided with equipment and furniture and employment opportunities will be created for about 500 healthcare providers and support staff. The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 456 crore. Of this, Tk 202.16 crore will be available from government funds and Tk 253.92 crore from project loans. After the approval of ECNEC, the project will be implemented by the Directorate General of Health Services from April this year to June 2024.

The project is not included in the list of unapproved new projects in the ADP 2021-22 to facilitate the receipt of foreign aid. However, the project was included in the RADP for FY 2020-21. Under the project, 19 thousand 935 square meters of 5 existing buildings will be expanded and renovated upwards. Two lakh 19 thousand 457 medical and surgical equipments will be collected. Besides, 14,022 pieces of furniture and a jeep will be purchased.
