Five schools to be named in foreign after Bangabandhu

Dhaka, September 12, 2021: On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tk 100 crore has been allocated to run schools in his name in five countries.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Wage Earners Welfare Board is working to provide education to the children of expatriate Bangladeshi workers in Athens, Greece, Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, Riyadh and Dammam in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The expenditure has recently been accounted for in the Parliamentary Committee on the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment. The ministry said the process of establishing 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Centenary School' either individually or jointly with a leader of the country concerned is underway. 102 crore two lakh 8 thousand 558 rupees has been allocated from Wage Earnas Welfare Board for this purpose.

According to a report of the ministry given to the parliamentary committee, an allocation of Tk 27 crore 24 lakh 8 thousand 558 was approved for the schools in Greece in February last year.

One crore rupees was allocated in the last financial year for 'Bangladesh English Private School' in Ras-Al-Khaimah, UAE. Against the demand of Tk 20 crore of the embassy, ​​another Tk 1 crore has been given this year. It was stipulated that the new building to be constructed in the school should be named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The policy decision to allocate Tk 40 crore to Bangladeshi schools in Bahrain was approved last year; Activities in progress.

It has been decided to provide Tk 16 crore 92 lakh for the establishment of Bangladesh International School and College in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The embassy has selected the land for the school. An estimate of Tk 13 crore 8 lakh was approved in 2016 for the purchase of land and construction of a building for the establishment of Bangladesh International School in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

Hamidur Rahman, director general of the Wage Earners Welfare Board, said, "Not all schools are doing it with our money." Some schools run the community, somehow running. We are spending this money so that they can continue in the name of Bangabandhu on a larger scale and increase some more facilities.
