Dhaka, November 25: Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. The results came on Tuesday (November 24) night when the presence of the virus was tested as part of a routine test on the occasion of a visit to Niger to attend the 47th Foreign Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). There were no signs of Covid-19 in the body of the foreign minister at that time.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry said the foreign minister's visit to Niger had been cancelled. He is currently in isolation at home following the doctor's advice and is healthy. He was scheduled to attend the OIC conference as the leader of the Bangladesh delegation.
It has been decided that a team comprising officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as well as the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the OIC will represent Bangladesh at the conference.
Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen was also tested on the occasion of his visit to Niger. He is also in isolation at home following the doctor's advice and is healthy.
Earlier, the state minister for foreign affairs was attacked by coronavirus earlier this month.
