Dhaka, August 20: In view of Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen's statement "I have told India, Sheikh Hasina must be sustained", Awami League presidium member Abdur Rahman said "He (Foreign Minister) is not a member of our party. There is no question of our party being embarrassed by his statement."

On Saturday (August 20), he spoke to reporters after the function of Awami League's international affairs sub-committee to commemorate August 15 at 32 Dhanmondi.

Abdur Rahman said, "Look, in response to the question you asked about a recent statement of the foreign minister, my first point is that he can explain it well. Because he may have something to say about the statement that appeared in the media and newspapers. But if we assume If he has said that in the media, then on behalf of the party I tell you clearly, it is not our party's word. Our party always thinks that India is our very close and tested friend. We will never forget their contribution in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971."

He also said, "The party which was built and grown from within the soil and people of the country under the leadership of Bangabandhu, that party never believes in the principle of coming to power or surviving by depending on any foreign power. This party does not even expect that. He (Foreign Minister) is no one from our party. So there is no question of our party being embarrassed by his statement."

Addressing the foreign minister, the Awami League leader said, "Don't say anything in your speech and behavior that evil people can take advantage of. He will be careful about misleading people. That's all we want from him."

When asked whether the party has given any instructions to the foreign minister, a member of the presidium of Awami League said, "He (foreign minister) is a member of the cabinet. So we hope that the prime minister as the head of the cabinet will take care of this matter."
