Mitu Murder Case Former cop Babul Akter placed on five-day remand
Dhaka, May 12: A court has remanded former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter, husband of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, in a new case filed in connection with her shocking murder in Chittagong.
Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain filed a new case against six people at the Panchlaish police station in Bandarnagar on Wednesday (May 12). Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan's court passed the order.
Earlier, police produced former SP Babul Akhter in court at around 3.15pm. He was arrested in a case filed by his father-in-law and remanded for 7 days.
Chittagong City Police Senior Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Sahab Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said, "Police have applied for a seven-day remand for accused Babul Akhter in a new case filed at Panchlaish police station in connection with Mitu's murder. After the hearing, the court granted a five-day remand."
According to Chittagong PBI sources, the final report of the case filed by Babul Akhter after Mitu's murder was submitted to the court this morning. Later, Babul Akhter was shown arrested in a new case.
Earlier, Deputy Inspector General of Police Banaj Kumar Majumder held a press conference at the PBI head office in Dhanmondi around 12:15 pm.
He told a press conference that the High Court wanted to know how long the case would remain pending. The case took another turn in search of that answer. The plaintiff in the case cannot be arrested if he wants to. If the plaintiff is to be arrested, a final report must be submitted. Police are going to the court today to submit the final report from Khulshi.
Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumder further said that Musa was seen at the spot (Mitu's murder). Musa used to go to Babul Akhtar's house regularly. In his absence, he would also market at home. The PBI has tried to find out whether Musa was the source or not. This is what the PBI has tried to prove. Babul claimed that Mitu was injured in militant activities a few days before the murder. His behavior after death was like losing a loved one. So everyone believed him.
On the morning of June 5, 2016, Babul's wife Mitu was shot and hacked near her house on the way to pick up her son on a school bus at the GEC intersection in Chittagong. At that time, Babul was in Dhaka after being promoted as Superintendent of Police and joined the headquarters.
