Dhaka, May 15: Police have arrested Jamaat-e-Islami's Chittagong senior naib Amir and former MP (MP) of Satkania-Lohagara constituency Shahjahan Chowdhury. Satkania police arrested him from his home on Friday (May 14th) night.

Chittagong District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said he was arrested on charges of inciting Hefazat violence on March 26 in Hathazari. So the arrest will be shown in the case filed in that incident.

Meanwhile, police are looking for extremist Islamic speaker Mufti Amir Hamza on charges of misinterpretation and spreading extremism in the name of religion through Waz. Police officials say the Islamist speaker has long sought to destabilize the country by calling for so-called jihad in the name of Waz. By misinterpreting in the name of religion, they are pushing the soft-spoken teenagers towards militancy through brainwashing.

In addition to Amir Hamza, a few other Islamic speakers have been listed. They used to spread extremist and misleading information in the name of Waz on YouTube. Motivated by their misinterpretation, many are getting involved in militancy.

Mohammad Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of the counter-terrorism unit, said they had recently arrested a young man named Shakib for trying to attack the parliament building with a sword. During the preliminary interrogation, Shakib Ali Hassan Usama said that he had made this plan on the instructions of an Islamic speaker. Besides, he became involved in militancy after hearing the speeches of some other people during interrogation. We are trying to identify and arrest those culprits.

According to the Counter Terrorism Unit, a case was filed with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act after Shakib was arrested from the Sangsad Bhaban area on May 5. Ali Hasan Usama and Maulana Mahmudul Hasan Gunbi along with Shakib were accused in the case. Besides, based on the information obtained from Shakib during the preliminary interrogation, it has been said in the case statement that Shakib became addicted to extremism after watching the video containing extremist jihadi attack messages on his mobile phone.

Mufti Amir Hamza, who preaches in the regional language of Kushtia, is one of the most popular Islamic speakers. He was born in 1991 in Kushtia district. He has done Honors and Masters in Al-Quran from Islamic University Kushtia.
