Former President welcomed with hundreds of boats in Haor

Dhaka, June 27: After serving as president for 10 years and 41 days, former president Md. Abdul Hamid went to his native Kishoreganj's Kamalpuwa for the first time. He reached Kamalpur of Mithamain upazila by boat around 6:30 pm on Monday.

The former President said to all those who were waiting at the gate of the house, your Abdul Hamid is back among you. I am grateful for all that you have given me.

Even today you have welcomed me with hundreds of boats. Now I will come home regularly, meet you, exchange views. I don't want anything else. Now you all pray for me.

Earlier, he left by road from Kharampatti residence in Kishoreganj around 2.30 pm. After coming out of the house, people of different classes and professions were seen waiting with flowers at the crossroads to welcome him.

Apart from this, Haor residents were waiting with hundreds of engine-powered boats at Balikhlaghat area of Karimganj, the entrance of Haor. Later, Mithamin Upazila Parishad Chairman Achia Alam, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mamun, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Sumir Kumar Vaishnab, Mithamin Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Advocate Sharif Kamal welcomed the new former president. Shortly after that, he left for home by boat.

Mithamain Upazila Awami League general secretary Sumir Kumar Vaishnab said that the former president Abdul Hamid has recently come to his village. Hearing that he will come home today, there is a mood of celebration among the residents of Howar. Since morning, many went and sat on Balikhlaghat. They have hired a boat with their own money. The people of Howar were overjoyed to have him near.

Kishoreganj-4 Constituency Member of Parliament Engineer Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq said, "My father is the leader of Kishoreganj's soil and people. returned to us. He is impressed by everyone's love."
