Four arrested for vandalizing Bangabandhu's statue placed on remand

Dhaka, December 8: A court has granted remand to two madrasa students and two teachers arrested for vandalizing a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Enamul Haque produced the four arrested by the Model Police Station at 11am on Tuesday and the court granted their remand.

Following the hearing, the judge granted a five-day remand to two students of the madrasa, Abu Bakkar alias Mithun, 19, and Sabuj Islam alias Nahid, 20. At the same time, the court granted a four-day remand to two teachers of the madrassa, Al Amin (27) and Yusuf Ali (26).

The four accused were produced before the Kushtia Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court at 11am on Tuesday under tight police security.

Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Kushtia Model Police Station Inspector Nishikanta Das, remanded the two madrasa students arrested for vandalizing the sculpture in court for 10 days and two teachers of the same madrasa for seven days.

On Friday (December 4), miscreants smashed a sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the intersection of five roads in Kushtia city in the dark of night. Police later collected CCTV footage of the incident.

Police in a raid on Saturday and Sunday arrested two students of the Hefaz department of Madrasa Ibn Masood (RA) in Jugia area of ​​Kushtia and two teachers for assisting them.
