Four killed, 20 injured as bus falls into ditch in Gopalganj

Dhaka, November 28: Four people were killed when a passenger bus fell into a ditch in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj. At least 20 others were injured in the incident.

Tungipara Police Station OC AFM Nasim said the accident took place around 11:30 am on Saturday in the Malek Bazar area of ​​the Gopalganj-Pirojpur road in the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sanjit Dhar, 40, of Batikamari village under Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj, Krishna Kirtaniya, 32, son of Sumanta Kirtaniya of Jag Dumuria village under Tungipara upazila and van driver Akamuddin Mollah, 50, son of Momrez Mollah of Nilfa village. The police could not immediately reveal the name of the fourth person.

The injured have been admitted to Gopalganj General Hospital, police said.

The OC said a Dola Paribahan passenger bus was going to Dhaka from Nazirpur in Pirojpur district. The bus fell into a ditch when the driver lost control while trying to sideline a van on the way. Four people died on the spot.

Later, the fire service, police and locals went and rescued the victims, Nasim said.
