Four killed in clashes between two Rohingya groups in Ukhia

Dhaka, October 22: Four people have been killed in a clash between two groups of Rohingyas in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. Another 10 people were injured in the incident. The casualties are all Rohingya refugees.

Four of the injured have been admitted to a Rohingya camp hospital. The rest have been given first aid. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday (October 22) at Rohingya Camp No. 18 in Ukhia.

The deceased were identified as Md Idris, 32, Ibrahim Hossain, 22, Azizul Haque, 26, and Amin, 32, of Balukhali-2 Rohingya camp in Ukhia.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md Rafiqul Islam said, “I have received news that four people have been killed in a clash between two groups in a Rohingya camp. The names of the victims have not yet been ascertained. I'm at the scene. I will give details later."

Superintendent of Police Shihab Kaiser, commander of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in charge of security at the Rohingya camp, said two groups of Rohingyas clashed at Rohingya Camp No. 18 in Ukhia Balukhali on Friday morning. Four Rohingyas were killed by gunfire and sharp weapons between the two groups. Another 10 Rohingyas were injured at the time.

Immediately after the incident, APBn and district police recovered the bodies of the victims from the Balukhali Rohingya camp and started an operation to arrest the gunmen. Police have so far arrested one person, Shihab Kaiser said.
