Dhaka, December 24: Inter-district bus terminals will be constructed at four spots in Dhaka under bus route rationalization. This will soon reduce the traffic congestion in the metropolis.

The two mayors of Dhaka's North and South City Corporation (DNCC and DSCC) told reporters after inspecting the area adjacent to Batulia Para and Hemayetpur bus stand in the union's Birulia union in Savar on Wednesday (December 23).

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said buses from three districts are currently coming to the Mohakhali bus terminal, due to which a chaos gets created in Mohakhali area. "We two mayors have come out together to have a look at the situation. For Mohakhali we have seen Batulia of Birulia and Hemayetpur area for Gabtali."

He added that city buses would be at Gabtali and inter-district buses at Hemayetpur. "For this, we are inspecting the places with the help of transport owners-workers. We will go to Keraniganj and Jatrabari to see the other two places."

DSCC Mayor, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, said the terminal would be fully implemented in Hemayetpur and Birulia. "We will start work on the basis of feasibility study of these. If we can implement it from next year, the people of Dhaka will get the benefits soon. The public transport system will be disciplined."

He further said, "We have held several meetings under Dhaka Coordination Transport Authority. I have taken up the task of bringing public transport under a complete discipline. DNCC and DSCC have taken effective initiatives in this regard. As a result, we visited two places today."
