Four passengers of a private car die after girder falls from crane in Uttara

Dhaka, August 15: Four out of six passengers in a private car were killed when a girder crane fell from the under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project in Uttara of the capital. At least two others were injured. They are all members of the same family. The deceased are Rubel (50), Jharna (28), Jannat (6) and Zakaria (2).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Uttara West Police Station Mohammad Mohsin said that the incident took place in front of the Aarong store in Uttara Jasim Uddin area on Monday (August 15) afternoon.

He said, in the afternoon, a girder of BRT under construction fell from the crane. At that time the girder fell on a private car on the road. As a result, four passengers in the private car were killed. Two others were injured. Rescue work is ongoing.

According to fire service sources, heavy traffic jam has occurred due to traffic stop in Uttara area after the accident. The fire service, police and RAB are trying to clear the traffic jam and remove the accident-prone private car.

Md. Badrul Hasan, Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Traffic Uttara Division, said that there were a total of 6 people in the private car. They belong to the same family. The two reportedly got out after the girder collapsed. However, they were also injured. And the other four died on the spot in the car.
