Four people of Pirojpur were sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War

Dhaka, July20: The International Criminal Tribunal has announced the death sentence to four people, including Abdul Mannan of Pirojpur's Bhandari, in the case of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War. A three-member judicial panel headed by Tribunal Chairman Md. Shahinur Islam passed the verdict on Thursday.

Prosecutor Sahidur Rahman heard the plea of maximum sentence of the accused. Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman was with him. Advocate Gazi MH Tamim was in the hearing for the accused.

The four convicts are - Abdul Mannan Howlader alias Abdur Mannan Dealer alias Mannaf of Hetalia area of Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur, Ashrab Ali alias Ashraf Ali Howladar of the same area, Md. Maharaj Howladar alias Hatkata Maharaj (bail) of Charkhali area and Nurul Amin Howladar (absconder).

Charges of illegal detention, torture, abduction, looting, arson, rape, murder and genocide have been brought against these accused during the liberation war. In the four charges, 24 people were killed, one was raped, three persons and one woman were seriously injured in the firing by the accused, two of them died while undergoing treatment.

Expressing satisfaction with the prosecution verdict, the tribunal has given the verdict with the maximum sentence as the charges brought against the accused have been proven beyond doubt.
