Free antigen test starts in Jessore

Dhaka, December 5: Finally, the Rapid Antigen Test started for free in Bangladesh. In the first phase, this test has started in 10 districts of the country. The program started on Saturday (December 5) morning with an antigen test at Jessore District Sadar Hospital.

Antigen tests were started in 10 districts of the country under the chairmanship of Health Secretary Abdul Mannan.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the program. Civil surgeons from 10 districts, directors of hospitals and others also attended the event through video conference. Director General of the Department of Health Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam and others were present.

Health Secretary Abdul Mannan said, "Initially, antigen tests were introduced in the districts where RT PCR tests were not available. I wanted to start in the marginal districts with that in mind from the beginning."

He said, "Antigen test was much desired. Finally it has been introduced. This activity will be further expanded in the future."

Addressing the concerned people of 10 districts, he said that there should be no question about this activity. "The test must be done correctly. This test should be done with utmost sincerity so that there is no chance of any mistake."

Antigen tests will also be started in big hospitals and coveted dedicated hospitals, said the director general of the health department, Prof. Dr. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam. The first three tests were performed at Jessore Sadar Hospital within 15-30 minutes after the inauguration. It was also reported that the first two tests were negative.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, "We are very happy today. We have already received praise from the world for Covid-19 treatment. Progress has also been made on tests and treatment."

He also said that the program will be expanded across the country with the experience of 10 districts initially launched.

Additional Director General of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Meerjady Sabrina Flora gave a presentation on antigen test at the event.

Meanwhile, the first three samples collected and tested in Jessore have all tested negative.
