Gayeshwar Roy arrested from Dholaikhal, released after four hours

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 29 July 2023: BNP was supposed to take a stand at Nayabazar intersection (entrance of Babubazar Bridge) in the capital, but instead, the party took a stand at Dholaikhal intersection. BNP leaders and activists started the sit-in program at this intersection at 11:00 am.

BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police around 11:30 a.m. At one stage of the conflict, the police fired tear gas. In response, the residents threw bricks and stones. BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was arrested by the police from there.

Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police Chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid said that the BNP leaders and activists threw stones and bricks at the police. While chasing them, BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy fell on the road. The police at the spot took him in a car and brought him to the DB office. We saved him, not arrested him.

After about 4 hours of detention, he was brought to the BNP office in a police car at 3:30 on Saturday.

After being released, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said, "During the clash, my head burst and bled. Later he was severely beaten from the waist down. From there the police took him to Rajarbag police hospital and treated him. Later it was also taken to the detective police office. From there he went to the office.

When asked how his physical condition is now, he said, "It will take time to recover after the injury. Now we have to give saline."

Earlier, the BNP was supposed to take a stand at Nayabazar (the entrance of Babubazar Bridge) intersection in the capital, but instead, the party took a position at Dholaikhal intersection. BNP leaders and activists started the sit-in program there at 11 o'clock.

Around 11:30 am, BNP's leaders and workers clashed with the police. At one point, the police fired tear gas to remove the BNP activists. In response, the residents threw bricks and stones.

BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy was arrested by the police from there. Lalbagh Zone DC Zafar Hossain confirmed his arrest immediately.

It is initially known that he was staying in a shop at Dholaikhal Mor around 12 noon. The police arrested him from there.
