Own correspondent, Dhaka, 11 December: Massacre took place on 20 August 1971 in Laxmipur village of Atgharia upazila of Pabna. Twenty-six Hindus and two Muslims were brutally killed by make them stand in a line. A month ago, the Department of Public Works started the construction of a memorial at the massacre site in Laxmipur. During the excavation, the remains of several victims were found. In order to keep them in the museum of the Liberation War in the appropriate process the remains was handed over to Project Director of the Research Center for Genocide-Torture and Liberation War, Professor Muntasir Mamun.

On Friday (December 10) afternoon, a rally was organized at the slaughterhouse of Laxmipur village. The chief guest was the historian Professor Muntasir Mamun. Members of bereaved families, several widows of the time and local people were present at the rally held at Laxmipur village slaughterhouse.

Dr. Muntasir Mamun said that on that day Matiur Rahman Nizami of Jamaat-e-Islami, Razakar and people of Al Badr had assisted in this heinous murder. Locals need to think about this, be aware. Those involved in the killings were or are being re-voted. He further said that the Awami League government is providing all the assistance to the families who have become helpless due to the genocide. As the Awami League is in the government, a memorial is being built here today.

Dr. Muntasir Mamun said that the local freedom fighters need to come forward on the side of those who are still poor and oppressed. You don't have to look to the government for help. Those who are homeless can contact the upazila administration.

Witnesses to the 1971 Laxmipur massacre said that on 20 August 1971, the Pakistan Army raided Laxmipur village in Laxmipur union of Atgharia upazila of Pabna. They killed 28 innocent people with the help of local razakars. In the nine months of the War of Liberation, the highest number of people were killed in Debottar, Bangsipara, Garuri, Atgharia Bazar of Atgharia and Beldaha area of Ekdant.
