Dhaka, November 16: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that if given a chance, Bangladesh will be able to manufacture coronavirus vaccines.

"Our success in combating coronavirus has gained international recognition. When I went to the climate conference, I also said that we want to make our own vaccine. Obstacles to vaccine development need to be addressed. It needs to be exposed, the people deserve it. It must be declared as public resource, so that no one in the world is barred from receiving this vaccine. We will also produce vaccines if given the opportunity. We have that ability and are working with initiative," the Prime Minister said.

She made the remarks at the National Assembly session on Monday (November 15). The Prime Minister addressed the discussion on the proposal to introduce the international award 'UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize in the Field of Creative Economy' in the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Earlier, Vice-Chairman Abdus Shahid brought the proposal in accordance with Section 147 of the Rules of Procedure.

In the resolution, he mentioned, "Parliament is of the view that UNESCO has awarded an international award named 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize in the Field of Creative Economy' in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. On behalf of the people of Bangladesh, sincere congratulations and thanks should be extended to UNESCO through a special discussion in the National Assembly for its introduction."

Earlier, many MPs and ministers discussed the proposal in Parliament. Deputy Leader of the Opposition GM Quader also spoke. BNP MP Harunur Rashid said a discussion on Bangabandhu's contribution could not be ended in a short time. At the end of the discussion, the proposal was voted on and it was unanimously accepted.
