Dhaka, April 5: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized the need to coordinate individual country efforts with global initiatives alongside effective policies and plans to overcome the effects of climate change to build a better world for all.

She said, "Since the source of climate change is global, its solution and management must also be global. Only if global efforts and individual country efforts are coordinated and guided by effective policies, plans and governance, can efforts be successful."

The Prime Minister made these remarks today in a pre-recorded video message broadcast at the opening session of the 5th International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

She said that Bangladesh is ready to join any initiative at the regional and global level to deal with the effects of climate change.

The Prime Minister called for coordinated global efforts and exchange of views on climate adaptation, mitigation and resilient infrastructure.

She said, "We believe that commitment and compliance with the financing process is essential to deal with unexpected crises."

The Prime Minister added, "Building a sustainable and resilient future for all of us requires greater solidarity among governments, international and regional organizations, and the private sector. At the same time, we need to bring about a systemic change in our thinking on this issue by incorporating science, technology, innovation, sustainable transformation."

The Head of Government reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to work hand in hand with the global community to ensure a better world for all of us. She congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for organizing this timely event. Bangladesh joined this platform in July 2021.

Due to the adverse effects of climate change, Sheikh Hasina said, Bangladesh is facing unexpected climate disasters and calamities, which are causing great damage to our institutions and resources. A strong and physical infrastructure is needed to withstand the changing conditions and these shocks and stresses.

The Prime Minister said that recently the world has witnessed a series of disasters like massive earthquakes in Turkey, Syria and Afghanistan, hurricanes in the Caribbean, USA and Canada and floods in South Africa.

She said, "Last year we faced several natural disasters including floods and cyclones in Bangladesh, which resulted in huge economic losses."
