Gold bars worth Tk 70 lakh recovered in Benapole, smugglers arrested

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 30 March 2024: 6 gold bars have been recovered while being smuggled into India through Putkhali border of Benapole Port Police Station, Jessore. This bar was found in the anus of smuggler Manoruddin. BGB members arrested him. The arrested smuggler Manoruddin is the son of Kadar Ali of Putkhali village under Benapole Port police station. He was arrested on the paved road in front of the local Masjidbari BGB check post around 10:30 on Thursday night.

According to BGB, the gold smuggler was arrested from Masjidbari BGB check post area near the main pillar of the border under the leadership of Subedar Mahabubur Rahman, commander of Putkhali camp of Khulna 21 BGB battalion. Manoruddin was going to the border on an easybike to smuggle into India.

After his suspicious arrest, a search of his body initially found no gold. Later on interrogation he admitted to having the gold bars in his anus. A scan at Rajni Clinic in Benapole Bazar revealed the presence of 6 pieces of gold bars in her anus. The weight of which is 700 grams and the market price is approximately Tk 70 lakhs.

Khulna 21 BGB battalion captain Lt. Col. Khurshid Anwar confirmed the arrest of one of the smugglers and said that the recovered gold consignment was handed over to the Jessore Treasury and the accused to the Benapole Port Police Station.
