Government employees want 60 percent salary hike

Dhaka, May 21: The Bangladesh Third Class Government Employees' Association has demanded a 60 percent increase in the interim salary of government employees until the new national pay scale is provided. They made the demand at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) Sagar-Runi auditorium on Saturday (May 21st).

Secretary General of the Association Md. Chaljar Rahman read out a written statement at the press conference. He said prices of essential commodities, including gas, electricity, water and medical expenses, have risen dramatically in the last seven years since the latest national pay scale was introduced in 2015. As a result, the livelihood of low-income government employees has become difficult. In this situation, it is essential to provide a new national pay scale.

However, until the new pay scale is provided, government employees are asked to increase their salaries by 60 percent in the interim.

At the same time medical allowance of Tk 4,000 has to be paid. In order to eliminate inequality among the employees of the Republic, equivalents of non-secretarial departments, directorates, offices, agencies, agencies, divisional commissioners, chief assistants working in the offices of deputy commissioners, high-ranking assistants, stenographers, computer operators, store keepers They demanded pay scales including second class rank and salary scale for private officers, where applicable, diploma nurses, equivalent qualified diploma health technologists, pharmacists and equivalent qualified second class rank.

A memorandum has been issued to the Prime Minister on May 24 to implement these demands and a staff rally has been announced in various departments and institutions, administrative divisions and districts of the capital from May 26 to June 9 in support of the demands. If the demand is not implemented, a human chain program will be held in front of the National Press Club on June 11, the speakers said.
