Dhaka, May 21: Awami League general secretary and bridge minister Obaidul Quader has said that the government is not sparing anyone- even its own party members- involved in corruption and misdeeds.

"In the interest of good governance, whoever is the culprit is being brought under the law," Quader said at a regular briefing on Friday (May 21st).

"The BNP secretary general is talking about the movement, but do they have the strength and ability to carry out the movement?" the Awami League general secretary asked, adding, "Those who could not even hold a procession for the release of the party chairperson, better not lecture about any movement."

The public do not respond to BNP's call for movement anymore. It's useless," Quader said.

Responding to Mirza Fakhrul Islam's statement that the people are not on the side of the government, he said, "If elections are the yardstick, then the absolute victory of Awami League in almost all recent elections proves that the people of this country are with the development and achievements of Sheikh Hasina government."

Let the next general election come, it will be proven whether the people of this country are with the Sheikh Hasina government or not," Quader added.

Obaidul Quader said in response to the BNP secretary general's allegation that the government had hurt journalists so that corruption would not be exposed in the media. "So did the BNP brutally kill and torture journalists Shamsur Rahman, Manik Saha, Humayun Kabir Balu and many others to cover up their corruption?"

Obaidul Quader said he thought that the country is now moving towards the path of light from the darkness that the BNP-led four-party government had left the country in.

He said the economy of Bangladesh is now dynamic after being hit by the outbreak of the coronavirus. Even in the coronavirus crisis, the per capita income of the people has reached USD 2,227.
